Kowloon is likely the best. Lai Chi Kok and Kwun Tong are great locations. They are near residential, but are still in the industrial areas where the rents are low. The apartments are not nice, but they are functional.

But that’s not the case on Hong Kong Island. The living areas are smaller. There are lockers, but smaller and more costly. Location trumps price. But nobody likes the rent.

The New Territories is a surprise for many. It’s cheaper and bigger, sometimes much bigger. It comes with distance. A drive if not a drive. But it’s worth it for storage.

In 2016, it’s amazing how they’re all the same. AC, key fob, alarm – standard. So it’s not what they have. It’s their maintenance.

Some are new or recently refurbished. Some are like cruise control. It’s the lighting and the cleanliness and even the doors. You can’t really see it, but you can feel it.

Or there are new facilities. They are more likely to have early-bird specials. Deals, leases, perks. Older facilities focus on branding. It’s not wrong or right, it’s a matter of focus.

Questions like: which mini storage is best in “such and such” location? It depends on what you do. If you will use it regularly, you want location. If you’re storing something for a while, price is more important.

What I’ve noticed of different storage providers: second best may be better. You begin with location, and then scale up your usage.

That’s where lists fail. They may work, but not necessarily. The best mini storage in Hong Kong in 2016 will be what you can afford.
